TreQ

TreQ is the systems integrator of the quantum stack: it designs and builds open-architecture quantum computers from best-of-breed components instead of a single vendor's stack.

TreQ takes a contrarian position in a quantum industry organized around vertically integrated full-stack companies: nobody builds a supercomputer from one vendor's parts, so why build a quantum computer that way? Founded in 2023 by Mandy Birch, a former Rigetti executive and brigadier general in the US Air Force Reserve, TreQ designs, manufactures, and integrates open-architecture quantum computing clusters, assembling qubits, control electronics, and infrastructure from multiple vendors into turnkey systems for national labs, universities, and companies that want to own machines rather than rent cloud access.

The company raised a $5M round from investors including Creator Fund and operates on both sides of the Atlantic, with a UK base at Milton Park in Oxfordshire and a presence in Boulder as a member of the Elevate Quantum Tech Hub. That footprint is the business model in miniature: the open-architecture thesis only works if you sit close to component suppliers, and Colorado's enabling-hardware layer, from cryogenics to lasers to vapor cells, is exactly the supply chain an integrator needs.

Why it matters to the Valley: if quantum computing standardizes around interchangeable parts the way classical computing did, the integrator layer becomes the profitable one, and TreQ chose Boulder as one of the places to build it.
